Manamon

So … I can’t remember when, but I was on the phone with a friend more than a year ago, and he was playing a computer game. I heard all kinds of cool sounds, And got curious. I asked him what game he was playing; he told me it was called Manamon.

For some unknown reason, after more than a year, I decided to try it for my self. I think that was in September.

I was immediately sucked into this RPG. At first, I didn’t really get anywhere, and even started over a few times. But then it got good. With my children visiting their dad, I got pretty far, but got stuck battling one of the big bosses, so I used a certain element to get myself out of there to train.

You go to any of the roads, where there are wild manamon, and you engage in battles. I admit, it got very boring, so I trained for weeks with the periods of training lessening each time.

I love the lesson it teaches though, which is, if you want something, you need to work for it. It won’t just come to you out of the blue.

Anyway, sorry, I’m very good at ranting. Back to the topic at hand. You travel the country with the goal of getting seven stadium keys. Your ultimate goal is becoming stadium master. But along your travels you come across a bad guy. So now, you not only get to catch all the manamon you can catch, but you’re also faced with trying to stop an evil man from destroying the world. You also collect various items as you are traveling, but some of those items are hidden, especially those in the different towns, so press enter while moving.

I can rant about how fabulous this game is all day, but I don’t want to give anything away that I shouldn’t.

There are also a few things that I didn’t really like about the game, and one is just my personal opinion, and one is probably because my PC is a very low end machine.

First of all, the game crashed on me a lot. I was completely done with the game, there was just a lot of dialogue I had to get past before I saved. The game crashed, and I had to battle it out with the master’s stadium all over again. that’s just one example.

Second problem I have, and this is just me, but the story line is darker than I would have liked. There is also an online comunication center thing, where you can battle your friends, or trade manamon. It is very complicated in my opinion. If you don’t know how to mess with your router, and open your ports for that thing, you’re not trading.

Heres the worse part. You can only complete your manapedia by trading… Ugh… So I guess I’m not going to complete my manapedia, the only friend I have who currently plays this game doesn’t know how to open their ports, and the other friend, who introduced me to the game, doesn’t have a good enough connection. So does that mean I haven’t finished the game? Again, ugh.

Point number three is just that I wish this game allowed more than one saving slot thing. If I start over and begin my manamon journey again, which I am not even sure I’ll do, I’ll lose any progress I’ve made. Not too big of a deal, because in SpongeBob’s words in season 1 episode 17, “It’s just a game, you know?” in other words, not something I’m going to trip off of. I won’t say I didn’t enjoy this RPG, because I really did enjoy it. But with all the crashing, and the complicated Ip address thingy, I don’t know if I could recommend it, I mean, technically I finished the game, but then I didn’t complete my manapedia so, ugh, my answer is very complicated too. I guess i’ll go with yes and no.
